The Wasteland Days

Oblivion... no one thought it would be like this. We figure that judgement would be swift, that when the end came everyone would be gone in an instant. But that didn't happen. Three months ago, the world's water supplies were contaminated with Plant-Consuming Bacteria (PCBs for short), causing most exposed flora to disappear within weeks. News of this catastrophy spread quickly, causing mass histeria and compulsive hording.

People thought their governements would save them. They were wrong. Governments quickly constructed massive survival complexes, but they were designed to house a small segment of their state's population (most commonly educated professionals and the more affluent members of society). As supplies disapeared from the shelves, and as sources of food vanished, people felt betrayed by the governments that would soon be leaving them to fend for themselves. Violence and acts of desperation soon followed.

The Wasteland Days, by Gnolithic

Survival became the only rule outside the complexes, on the surface that became known as the wasteland. Some wasteland dwellers survived through a nomadic lifestyle, others by banding together, gathering what resources they could and staying safely out of sight. Still, some groups survived by forcibly taking what others had made or saved. This is our present predicament. This is life in the wasteland days.

Description

The Wasteland Days is a resource-management game set in a world three-months removed from cataclysmic events. Players share a pool of resource cards, rushing to take what they can before the others. But the wasteland is also cruel, and players must endure disease outbreaks and attacks by nomadic raiders.

Through it all, survivors out in the wasteland must build a new way of life, and struggle to reach a safe and sustainable state. That is, unless a player is fortunate enough to start in the survival complex. Such a player, who can be joined by determined wasteland survivors, must rise through the ranks in the make-shift power structure of the survival complex, build up its infrastructure, and ensure that all social groups inside are content.

To win the game, a player must be the first to achieve a sustainable way of life or control the survival complex.
